Review of Hotel Vitale, San Francisco

This waterfront hotel overlooking the Bay Bridge is 3 blocks from the financial district and a 4-minute walk from the Ferry Building. The Joie de Vivre hotel chain knows how to make charming boutique hotels, and this elegant waterfront hotel is no exception. The Hotel de Spa Vitale is a remarkable example and offers a unique ritual bath: perfect for couples, you will be on the roof garden with bamboos as walls. Enough to get your imagination going. The spacious and quiet rooms have a chic room, and most of them have a magnificent view of the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge.

After a difficult arrival in San Francisco (drizzle, cold), the Vitale was an excellent surprise. A zen spirit both in the decoration of the hotel and in the attitude of the staff. A remarkable quality of service (thanks to the concierge for the choice of the restaurant La Mar). The location is ideal for the center of San Francisco: you can do everything on foot or by tram while remaining calm in the evening. The ferry building opposite is a market with extraordinary products for good lunch and breakfast.

It’s the little things about this hotel that are nice, like the background music when we entered the room, or the Fresh toiletries that were offered. We were worried that it might be noisy with the trams not far from the hotel, but it’s very well insulated and noise is not a problem. Actually, we found the hotel very peaceful.

My room was impeccably clean just like the hotel. I was upgraded to a room with a “partial view” of the bay deck. My window overlooked the boats sailing on the bay and the view of the sunset and sunrise is unbelievable.

My stay at the new Hotel Vitale was nothing short of fantastic. I have stayed in many hotels all over the country and in San Francisco and the Vitale Hotel was refreshing, offering a wonderful view of Bay Bridge from the common areas as well as the rooms. It’s one of my favourite hotel in San Francisco. We liked the hotel restaurant, the service was excellent and the food was of good quality. It was a great experience to repeat.

How are stars awarded to hotels in France?

A tourist hotel is a commercial accommodation establishment. It offers various services. It can be ranked (expressed in number of stars) regardless of the number of rooms. Star rating is not mandatory, it is done at the request of the hotel operator. The hotel may also have a label.

The star rating of hotels

Hotels are classified in 5 categories from 1 to 5 stars. Stars are awarded on the basis of the assessment of 3 main criteria:

  • the quality of comfort of the equipment,
  • the quality of the services offered in the establishments,
  • good practices in terms of respect for the environment and the reception of customers with disabilities.

To maintain the quality of hotels throughout France, the hotel is evaluated every 5 years.

Classification is voluntary: it is the operator who must submit the request for classification of his establishment to Atout France.
